I love it when nurses ask me how much I'm getting paid. Now, I wouldn't mind sharing this with a close friend whom I know I can trust, but give me a fricking break. Requests coming from an associate, I don't think so.
I like to give a really high figure and just watch them almost shit their pants, then they morph into sillyness, as though I am not telling them the truth, and then they morph into a pissed off child when I keep my poker face and don't budge. It's great!!! Try it sometime. Tell the person who asks that you are making $62.00/hr. GOTTA LOVE IT
Ps. If any of you are making $62.00/hr please notify me of the hospital you're working at so I can come and play nurse in your neck of the woods.

Nursing pay is a weird thing.
I think there is a direct correlation to nurses in red states making significantly less than nurses in blue states.
And the bluer the county of the blue state the higher the pay. Nurses in SF make 100K a year. To fucking start.
Nurses in Oregon make as much as nurses in (strangely) conservative southern California.
Something tells me nurses in Texas and Florida make shit.
Prove me wrong puhleaze!

I hear nurses in Houston make pretty good money.
I work for the VA and we pay a 23% locality pay bump for Houston. The VA pays extra for every location to make it competitive.
My locality pay is 13% more where I am and frankly, it was 20% more for a newer (under 1 year) nurse.
I was a nurse 8 months and I bailed from the private sector to go to the VA. I don't regret it. There's bullshit everywhere, but I'd rather get paid more if I have to deal with it everywhere!
I only deal with it 8 hours a day, and I like being well-paid, thank you very much.
If you have the experience, you can get paid at the VA. The stress level can be higher in certain areas (ICU,etc.), though.
